Millville's Mike Trout doesn't make under-18 national team
Published: Jul 21, 2008

Mike Trout had his moments during the tryouts but failed to make the U.S. 18-Under National Team.

Trout, who will be a Millville High School senior in the fall, was one of 34 players to arrive in Phoenix last Thursday for the tryouts. USA Baseball announced the 18-player team Wednesday night. It will represent the U.S. in the International Baseball Federation AAA World Junior Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, from July 25-Aug. 3.

The 34 players were divided into Red and Blue teams. There were scrimmages and workouts in the morning and games at night.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Trout was trying out as both a position player and a pitcher. He hit the ball well, with an RBI single in one game and a triple in another. In one contest, he had two hits, an RBI and scored a run. More
