A field of alliums grows on Union Road in eastern Vineland on Wednesday. Related to onions and garlic, alliums - or ormamental onions - make good additions to flower gardens, according to the Web site FlowerGardeningMadeEasy.com. Of the several hundred species of alliums known, only a few are widely planted in gardens. They bloom from May through July and thrive in well-drained soil in full sun or light shade.
