CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE - Nine-month-old Alyssa Rose Clark rode a dolphin Wednesday afternoon as it went around in circle alongside a zebra and a lion as "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" played in the background.

Her mother, Jaime, held her in place as the wide-eyed girl looked around the carousel and seemed equally as fascinated by the new merry-go-round as by the lights above it.

The recently opened carousel, custom-made for The Cape May County Zoo, includes likenesses of zoo and non-zoo animals.

The Cape May County Zoological Society - the nonprofit group that works in conjunction with the zoo - expects its $400,000 carousel to earn its keep and raise money to fund future zoo exhibits, said society Executive Director Bill MacQueen. More
