ATLANTIC CITY - Anne Zarych doesn't need air conditioning.

She can usually open the side windows of her New Hampshire Avenue home and welcome the ocean breeze. But these days there's something in the wind: sand.

Construction workers are piling up dirt from the nearby Revel Entertainment project in the empty lot at the Boardwalk. Zarych was told it would not be any higher than the Boardwalk line. But when she returned from work Tuesday night, the mound reached beyond that. By Wednesday afternoon, as trucks continued to haul in more sand, the pile was several feet above the walkway's rail.

A film of dust on the panes shows why Zarych now can't leave her windows open. More
