Courting 'Gossip'

"Gossip Girl" will get people talking. At least, that seems likely as the CW network brings to a boil its new campaign for the sexy prep-school soap.

The show's second season begins Sept. 1, following an August promotion to put viewers, um, in the mood. And here's a twist: The racy ads co-opt language from the very criticism of the show for being too, well, racy.

Alert surfers got a preview last week, when images of coupled-up "Gossip Girl" characters found their way onto several Web sites. More

What Is It: The two musical groups are comprised of some of the best jazz musicians in the U.S. Military. The band is part of the 99th Regional Readiness Command, which oversees Reserve troop operations from New York to Virginia. It will be moving to a new headquarters at Fort Dix New Jersey in the new year. "We're on the way to Cape May," said SPC Bradley Mattson, a trumpet player in the Band. "I've lived in New Jersey all my life, and it is so nice to perform close to home - and nothing feels more like home than the Jersey Shore." The goal of the Army Band to promote goodwill and entertainment with the general public, and to identify good musicians who may want to join their ranks and enjoy the military musical experience.

Mom's hesitance to care for dad could mean many things

Question: My 72-year-old father recently had quintuple-bypass heart surgery. My mom decided "he did this to himself and now I'm stuck with his problem." She has always been health-conscious, whereas Dad has not. He's not overweight, has always been spry and was pretty healthy until this. Of course, good genes help Mom, whose 100-year-old mother has no major health problems, either.

Surround sound, but with using only one speaker

Question: I'd like to know if wireless speakers are a good option for a surround-sound system these days. I suspect the technology isn't there yet based on other articles I've read, but I thought I'd ask. Having the living room hard-wired seems likely to cost more money than I want to shell out given our hardwood floors, but for proper home-theater sound you seem to need speakers in 5 different locations. We currently have a four-speaker system with two speakers "stacked" on either side of the entertainment system, but obviously this isn't ideal.
