Ralph Weakly had been traveling down Route 539 for close to an hour one hot Friday afternoon when he arrived at the intersection for Route 72 in Barnegat. A right turn would take the Trenton native over the causeway to Long Beach Island for a weekend of sun, sand and relaxation at his vacation house in Beach Haven.
