Golden Opportunity New menu, staff enliven Golden Inn's Dining Room
By SCOTT CRONICK At The Shore, 609-272-7017

Published: Jul 24, 2008

Sometimes, tradition just isn't enough. Even though the Golden Inn has been an acclaimed fixture in Avalon - both as a hotel and culinary destination - you have to occasionally stir the pot to keep things interesting.

That's exactly what the Golden Inn did in the off season. Not only did the summer landmark bring in a new general manager - Kevin Sterling - it also brought in new executive chef Glynn Swain.

Even though this is Sterling's and Swain's first summer working together, the Golden Inn - particularly its food-and-beverage operations - have improved dramatically. And there's no better example than the room's gastronomic showcase, the Dining Room.

"I stressed with the chef that we had to start by offering (a) quality product," says Sterling, a former food-and-beverage executive at Showboat Casino-Hotel in Atlantic City. "We need to keep guests coming back. So it's a lot about simplicity and freshness done perfectly, and I think that's what we achieved in a short time. There have been regulars coming here for 15 or 20 years, and they love the chef and quality of the food. We're driving people back to the dining room." More

Boyd's Texas Style BBQ Restaurant disappoints a bit

I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived in Wildwood about 6 p.m. on the Tuesday before the Fourth of July and easily found a street parking space within a block of the Boardwalk. We put a couple of quarters in the meter and headed up to try Boyd's Texas Style BBQ Restaurant.

The Real Enchilada in Avalon offers up great Mexican food

Everything about The Real Enchilada in Avalon is colorful. We tried sitting at one of several lime-green picnic tables outside on a recent warm Sunday in late afternoon. There was a nice breeze, but gnats soon started bugging us.
